Straight answers

The product, the price, your data and switching. What Tandem doesn't do is on the list too.

The product

What is Tandem?

Field service software for owner-led HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops. Leads land in one pipeline, jobs go on a drag-and-drop board, your techs run their day from the tech app, customers get an on-my-way text with a live map, and estimates and invoices get signed and paid from a link. The office and the field see the same job.

Who is it for?

Owner-led shops of about 3 to 10 people in HVAC, plumbing and electrical, where the owner is often the tech and the office. It also works for one-person shops and bigger ones: Solo includes 1 person, Crew 5 and Level 15, with extra people at $39, $29 and $25 a month each. Other trades can use it; our starter price books are HVAC, plumbing and electrical.

Is there an app for my techs?

Yes. The tech app shows each technician their own jobs for the day. They can clock in and take breaks, head out (which texts the customer), start and finish jobs, take photos, fill in checklists, build estimates and get them signed on the spot, and take payments. With no signal it saves what they do and sends it, in order, when the phone is back online.

What does the AI receptionist actually do?

It's on the Level plan. It answers your business line and your texts when you can't. It can look up the caller, answer questions about their appointment or invoice, check your open times and book one, log a new lead, take a callback request, cancel a visit the customer asks to cancel, and hand the call to your office when a person should take it. It speaks English only. Every call and transcript lands in your Inbox.

It needs a business phone number connected through Tandem, and you can turn it off at any time. Level includes 1,000 AI minutes a month, then $0.29 a minute.

How do customers pay?

Invoices and estimate deposits go out by text or email with a link. Customers pay by card or bank transfer (ACH) on a secure checkout page and can add a tip. Payments run through your own Stripe account, so Stripe's processing fees apply and payouts go to your bank. Tandem adds no fee. You can also record cash and checks.

Pricing, billing and the trial

Is there a free trial?

Sign-up isn't open yet, so there's no trial to start today. Ask for early access and we'll set your shop up with you. Once sign-up opens, the trial is 14 days with everything in the plan you pick, and no card to start.

Compare the plans

What happens when a trial ends?

These are the terms for once sign-up opens. If you don't subscribe, your account drops to the Free plan. You can still sign in, see everything you had, and keep your free website. Jobs, scheduling, estimates, invoicing and payments stop until you subscribe in Settings → Plan & billing, and you're charged then. Nothing is charged unless you add a card.

How much does it cost?

Solo is $59 a month with 1 person included, $39 a month for each extra person. Crew is $149 a month with 5 people included, $29 a month for each extra person. Level is $299 a month with 15 people included, $25 a month for each extra person, and the AI receptionist's 1,000 minutes a month, then $0.29 a minute. Enterprise is priced for your business: talk to us. Pay yearly and you get two months free.

See pricing

What else could I be charged?

Three things beyond the plan price: people past the ones included, AI receptionist minutes past the plan's allowance, and Stripe's card fees on payments your customers make. Tandem adds no fee on those payments.

Who counts as a person on my plan?

Anyone active on your team: owners, office staff and technicians, including people you've invited who haven't signed in yet. People you've deactivated don't count, and neither do your customers.

Can I change plans later?

Yes, from Settings → Plan & billing. Move up when your crew grows or you want texting, marketing or the receptionist. Move down if you need less, as long as your active team fits the smaller plan. Your settings are kept if you move down.

Can I cancel?

Yes. In Settings → Plan & billing, open the billing portal and cancel. Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. After that your account is read-only: you can still sign in and see everything, and you can subscribe again. Your customers' links, payments and your booking page keep working.

Control and your data

Who owns my data?

You do. Your customers, jobs, estimates and invoices are your business's records. We process them to run the service for you. We don't sell them or use them for advertising, and we don't use them to train AI models; the AI provider we use processes them only to produce the response the feature needs.

Read the privacy policy

Can I get my data out?

On the Level plan, owners and admins can download customers, jobs, estimates, invoices, payments, employees and time entries as CSV or NDJSON from Settings → Developers, in full or just what changed since last time, and use the REST API. Every plan can download its payroll hours as CSV.

How is my data kept safe?

Every company's records are kept apart, and every request is checked against the company it belongs to. Passwords are stored as salted one-way hashes. Two-step sign-in is built in, and you can require it for your whole team. You can see and end every session, and every change records who made it.

How control works

What can my technicians see?

Technicians see only the jobs they're assigned to and what hangs off them: their customers, those customers' estimates and messages, and the invoices on their jobs. Office roles see what their role allows, and only owners and admins change company settings and the team.

Where does my techs' location go?

Only while they're clocked in or heading to a job. It shows on the office map and on the customer's on-my-way page. Location history is deleted after 30 days.

Switching from Housecall Pro or Jobber

Why switch?

Tandem covers the day-to-day jobs you'd use Housecall Pro or Jobber for: scheduling and dispatch, estimates with options and e-signature, invoicing, card payments from a link, memberships, texting, marketing and reports. It adds auto-scheduling by skill and drive time. Level adds a receptionist for calls and texts, and an open API. Prices are on the page, with extra people and receptionist minutes listed, so you can add up your own bill before you start.

Can I bring my customers over?

Yes. Export your customer list and price book from Housecall Pro or Jobber as CSV or Excel files and import them under Settings → Import, on every plan. We recognize both apps' columns, show you every row before anything is saved, and check for customers you already have (skip them, merge them or add them anyway). Then bring over past jobs, estimates, invoices and payments the same way. Each is matched to its customer and keeps its dates, amounts and old number. Importing never texts, emails or charges your customers, and nobody is opted in to marketing unless your file says they agreed.

Can I run both while I switch?

Yes. Importing only reads the files you export, so your current software keeps running untouched. Ask for early access and we'll plan the switch with you.

Can I keep my business phone number?

Texting and calling use a Twilio number connected to your account. Moving an existing number to it is a port through Twilio, which we don't do for you in the app yet.

What Tandem doesn't do

What can't the AI receptionist do?

It can't change a price, write an estimate or an invoice, take a payment or issue a refund. It only states prices, times and facts from your price book, your business details and the rules you write, and it won't make them up. In an emergency it points the caller to 911 or the utility first, then hands off to a person. The standard phone greeting says it's the virtual assistant, and you can edit the greeting. Calls with the AI stop at 10 minutes.

What doesn't Tandem do?

Not yet: consumer financing, Reserve with Google, Tap to Pay on the phone, a QuickBooks sync, Spanish screens or Spanish calls, Google reviews shown on your website, approval cards and an undo button for what the receptionist does, and moving your existing business number in from inside the app. Customers, your price book and your job, estimate, invoice and payment history do come over from spreadsheet exports (see Switching). We'd rather tell you now than have you find out on a job.
